Would you like to be part of a real growing
community of piano teachers?

Would you like to attend high quality training
here in the North of England?

About our group

The Wharfedale Piano Teachers’ events provide opportunities to meet face-to-face with other piano teaching professionals and receive inspiring training from highly regarded experts.

Established in 2024 by local teachers Sarah and Maggie and offering three events a year in Ilkley, The Wharfedale Piano Teachers have created a worthwhile date for the diary of any piano teacher, whether teaching 80 pupils a week or just half a dozen and anyone inbetween.

The Wharfedale Piano Teachers community is friendly, welcoming, creative and supportive.

By attending one of our events you will benefit from: learning up to date teaching strategies from experts; taking away ideas to use in your teaching; meeting other piano teachers; sharing teaching problems with others and supporting colleagues.

By attending one of our events your students will benefit from a teacher who: knows the joy of learning; uses the latest piano pedagogy to inspire their lessons; is energised to give the best to each and every pupil.

About our location

The Wharfedale Piano Teachers events are held in Christchurch in the town of Ilkley, the gateway to Wharfedale in Yorkshire. Christchurch is less than 10 minutes walk from Ilkley bus and train stations, with regular connections to Leeds and Bradford. Travelling by car, Ilkley is about 20 minutes from the A1 or M1, an hour from the M6 and just over an hour from Manchester. The church is easy to find on The Grove, Ilkley’s beautiful main shopping street, and there is a central car park under 5 minutes walk away.

Events are held in one of Christchurch’s halls: the spacious upper hall (accessible via a lift or stairs) where there is a grand piano and lovely natural light, or the more intimate lower hall with great screen projection and a good upright piano. Refreshments of hot and cold drinks are provided throughout the day, and there is a wide range of cafes and places to purchase lunch within easy walking distance. The church also has a cafe on site which serves lovely bacon rolls for Saturday breakfast, and there are accessible toilets on the ground floor. For anyone with spare time, Ilkley has moors and riverside walks to explore, many gorgeous independent shops and plenty of great restaurants. It is a thriving picturesque location and The Wharfedale Piano Teachers at Christchurch is right in the centre of it all!

About our community

The Wharfedale Piano Teachers became a Community Interest Company in 2026. We are a not for profit company, supporting piano teachers with high quality professional training and networking events, and thereby supporting musical education for children and adults across the country. Our aim is to develop the piano teaching profession’s confidence, to improve teaching skills and to provide meaningful networking opportunities in a face to face format.

To enable this we draw on expert speakers from across the country to lead presentations covering a wide variety of subjects that are pertinent to the role of a piano teacher. With the latest pedagogy, collaborative learning opportunities, and mixing with other like-minded teachers, participants are built up and supported in their vital role.

This community of piano teachers attending our events are then empowered to teach the next generation, providing musical education of the highest quality themselves and continuing a love of music out into the wider community. Music is well known for its positive impact on mental well-being as well as increasing focus and achievement in other academic areas. As a Community Interest Company all our profits go towards helping piano teachers feel connected and valued, supported and empowered, trained and ready to go!
